Inneall Customisable Open Source SIS
Utilise an open source SIS and modify this to meet your requirements as a third level Education provider. As this is an open source project we are free to take and modify the code and extend the functionality and look and feel. This also means we can easily add more capabilities in future if the need arises.
We can host this in a secure environment on Amazon's cloud platform ensuring the student data is kept on servers within Ireland. This would then be available to you as a web application with all traffic through and from the servers encrypted. We would then work with you to configure the system, populate the data and provide training where necessary.
As stated this is an open source project freely available for anyone to use but once we take a copy of this and modify it for you, that Student Information System will then wholly belong to you. This means that you as the client will not be tied to a particular vendor nor will there be a risk of that vendor deciding the product has come to end of life and would no longer be available.
The default setup is fully compatible with how a typical Irish Higher Education Institution would choose to save and structure courses.
The curriculum setup is hierarchical. Courses are created under broader subject areas. Once you create a course under a subject area, you then create a period for the course and assign the appropriate academic year to this.
Core logic is built into the system that allows you to easily set-up courses and assign additional properties if required, such as credits, assign a course timetable and a lecturer.
Student profile information such as images, contact information and supporting documents are stored in the students section of the SIS. Here a user with the appropriate permissions can modify the student data, generate student specific letters, transcripts and manage student enrolment.
This section comes with standard user search and management features. You can add a student directly to the SIS using a UI or students can be imported en-masse from an export or another system entirely.
Once a student is in the system you can enrol them on courses or add them to groups and then set an enrolment period. Once a student is enrolled on a course or added to a group he or she will automatically be scheduled for any events that this course or group are assigned to giving us the user the ability to populate attendance for that student on the event.
A student attendance system is one of the key components of a SIS. Once courses and students have been setup managing student attendance is straightforward. A lecturer or administrative staff member logs in and registers attendance/absence for students on an event.
Notes can be tagged onto the attendance record and you can then run attendance reports against groups, modules or individual students that can be exported to a spreadsheet.
Similar to attendance once the curriculum setup is complete and students are assigned to various programmes and groups the grading component allows you to assign a grade to each student and each assignment based on how this was previously set up by the administrative staff or lecturer.
The built in grade book allows lecturers to create assignments, class tests and any other activity using weighted scales if desired. Automatic tallying of grades, reports to find erroneously entered grades and advanced ad-hoc reporting is also included.
The current system has extensive built in reporting capabilities for grades, attendance and any number of reports that you can run against data in the system. This is also extremely customisable so that new custom reports can be created within the system to interrogate the data stored within.
User management and security
The default installation provides the capability to create users and roles and includes the ability to control user security at the field level. You can customise the included roles and create your own to meet specific needs directly within the system.
The bulk of the customisation you may want to achieve with the SIS can be done using the user interface, new fields and attributes can be added from within the SIS, the colour logo and additional preferences changed without any need for additional development.
There will be aspects of the system in terms of functionality and design that you cannot customise using the gui but this is something that we can change. Inneall can add additional functionality, modify the way the existing system looks and works and integrate with any other system that you require.
